Love Month

Looking back at my post from January and how it flew by so fast makes me realize that February went by even quicker than the month before! Which makes sense because there are less days in February than any other month...

During this past month, I've done my absolute best to really focus on all the things in my life that I truly love and am grateful for.

- Kurt: he is the love of my life and my best friend
- Family: they are so supportive in everything that I do
- Friends: they build me up and help me keep doing m best
- Education: it's hard, but I've grown to love learning
- The Gospel: I can't even begin to explain how happy the Gospel of Jesus Christ makes me.  Knowing where I came from, who I am, who I am meant to become, and where I will go is very important to me.  I know that God loves me and knows who I am, and I love having the knowledge of that.
- Temples: knowing that I have an eternal family because of temples is so comforting.
- Dental Hygiene: because I couldn't imagine studying any other profession, and it's one of the most important things to me.
- Health: I'm healthy, Kurt is healthy, and we feel very blessed because of it.

We did a lot of fun things in February.  Kurt has been playing a lot of church basketball, and I do my best to go to as many of his games as I can.

February 14th was quite a day to celebrate. It was our first Valentine's Day as a married couple, and also the first Valentine's day that we were able to spend together.  Last year, I was in Utah and Kurt was in California, so it was nice that we were able to celebrate together.  Kurt and I are not big celebrators of the holiday.  We think it's more important to spend everyday during the year recognizing the love that we have for each other.  But we will never pass up an excuse to love each other more and to celebrate with food.  I made breakfast for Kurt on Valentine's Day.  I made raspberry filled ebelskivers. They were incredible, if I do say so myself.  I made breakfast all fancy with orange juice in wine glasses and all that jazz.  I'd say it's definitely something Kurt wouldn't mind eating again. :)

Then I made Kurt a Valentine.  His favorite candy is Swedish Fish so I decided to do a little play off of that.  Here's what I came up with!

Kurt took me to Tucanos Brazilian Grill for dinner.  I have a very deep and unwavering love for Tucanos.  Especially their mango cod and picahlo.  I was so spoiled.  Kurt is the kindest, most loving, generous, and loyal man I have ever met. I am so lucky to have him as my husband.

Later that same weekend, Kurt and I went to the Midway Ice Castles with Christine and Payton.  They announced they were closing for the season, so we had to hurry up and go because none of us plan to be in Utah during the next winter.  It was very cool (haha...get it? Cool, as in cold, as in ice).  Even Elsa and Ana were there!  It was a fun little experience to share together.

On the last day of February, Kurt and I went to the temple.  I don't think it's possible for me to describe the peace that I feel when I'm in the temple.  It's the one place in this world that is not of this world.  It's the only place where I can always feel loved and comforted, and I am so unbelievably grateful for that.

February quickly came to an end.  I hardly remember what we did because of all the school work I have had and all the other many things that keep Kurt and I busy.  But I do know that February was a great month.  When is celebrating love not great?

Soon I will be updating the world on my twin sister's 2 bridal showers (one thrown by me, the other in Santa Barbara, CA); my older sister, Elise, surprising us with a visit; Dental Hygiene School and Mock Boards (dun Dun DUN!!!)

Kurt and I are looking forward to an incredible end of March, the end of winter, and the ending of my 4th semester of Dental Hygiene school!

The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway

If you are like me, you listen to "Let It Go" from Disney's Frozen on repeat for at least 4 hours of the day. I know all of the words by heart {and so does my husband...}, so you could say I'm a little obsessed.

You can by it here on iTunes for only $0.69! I don't know how long it will be like that, but I've bought mine already so I'm set for life.

Here's a list of my favorite YouTube videos that I listen to.  Some are cute, some are funny, and some are just plain incredible.  Enjoy!

The Original
"Let it Go" sung by Idina Menzel

Want to pretend to be a pop star and sing along?
Sung by Demi Lovato
(I kinda sorta really love her. Don't tell anyone.)

Want something that will blow your mind?
Sung by Alex Boye ft. One Voice Children's Choir

Want something funny?
Sung by Christina Bianco (impersonating other singers)

Want to just die of cuteness?
Sung by Maddie and Zoe

Want to here a guy sing it?
Sung by Caleb Hyles
(Listen to the whole thing; it's impressive)

Where Did January Go?

The month of January has gone by so quickly.  I can hardly even remember what BK and I have done this last month.  We started 2014 in Santa Barbara, CA and so much has happened since January 1st.

I went back to school and started my 4th semester at Utah College of Dental Hygiene.  I am seeing the most difficult patients I have ever worked on and I am working really hard in my classes to stay on top of things.  Not only that, Boards are being more and more emphasized and I'm taking my first Mock Board test on March 7th. One thing I have learned already is that one can never pray for help too early, that's for sure.  But being back at school is great. I love being with my friends and learning more everyday.  It's exciting to see how I've become more confident in my abilities at school. I'm not saying that I am incredible, or that I am officially ready to become a Dental Hygienist, but I definitely know that I am capable of improvement and being a great hygienist by the time I graduate. I get an even bigger boost of confidence when my teachers go out of their way to tell me how well I am doing and how impressed they are with my work.  And they always seem to tell me when I need it the most.

BK is back at work, and is working harder than ever. I'm so proud of him for all that he does to provide for our little family, to meet all our needs & wants, while still saving money. He's an amazing man, and I am very lucky to be his wife.

We have been very excited to magnify our callings to the best of our abilities during this past month.  January is a fresh start, and we are glad that we get that fresh start at church.  With BK being Ward Mission Leader, and me being 1st Counselor in the YW Presidency & Primary Chorister, we have our hands full.  But we love every second of it, and are really excited for all the things we have planned for this year.

Here are some other mini, summarized highlights we have from this month!

- I got a haircut. Not a super big deal, but it is when your husband picks it out.  So far I love having shorter hair. It's a big change for me, but my husband loves it and that's what matters :)

I got a long, inverted bob & ombre. I'm obsessed!

- I went wedding dress shopping with my twin sister, Christine! I had so much fun and I am so excited for her to be a bride on May 3rd!
- BK has been dominating in church basketball.  He loves playing with guys in the ward and plays extremely well. Not to mention he had a phenomenal dunk.  But we won't talk about the fact that his wife missed the whole thing.
- BK has also been cycling a whole lot more now that his lovely wife bought him a trainer.  It pretty much turns a bike into a stationary bike so he can ride indoors. I'll admit, it is very cool.
- I have started running. Now listen. Anyone who knows me knows that I hated running. It was my least favorite thing to do of all time (that is probably a bit of an exaggeration but it's close to being almost 100% true).  So far I have been running for 4 weeks and my longest "run" has been 5 miles.  Pretty cool, huh? Now, I don't want you all thinking that I became this fantastic runner in 4 short weeks.  I still walked 3 of those 5 miles.  But I ran 2 and I'm really happy about that.  I've been following an 8 Weeks to a 5k program by Nike+ and I plan on doing it twice (don't worry, all the walking I am doing is part of the program.  I'm not being a baby and giving up during my runs...just so we're clear).  If I stick to it for all 16 weeks, Kurt's going to reward me with the thing I have wanted most, a DSLR camera :) So I've worked my butt off and will continue to do so.
- We went to Park City and watched the Halfpipe Skiing Finals.  It was so much fun! We went with Christine and Payton, and many other friends.  It is one of the coolest sports to watch and I'm really excited for when the Olympics start next week! Not only did we do that, but we also went shopping in Park City that day.  Kurt and I definitely spoiled ourselves! It made me so grateful that we save money which allows us to treat ourselves every so often.  You know you have the best husband when he is picking out clothes for you and you actually end up buying them :)

My twin sister, Christine, and her fiance, Payton.

- On the last day of the month we went to the temple.  I loved ending the month on such a high note.  The temple is a beautiful place and beautiful things happen there. I am so grateful for the blessings the temple brings into my life and into the lives of my family.  BK and I love the temple and love going every month. It has brought us so much closer together and so much closer to Christ.

Jingle Bells, California, and Ringing in the New Year!

I'm pretty sure I'm the worst blogger of all time because I haven't even written about our Christmas adventures yet! But have no fear, because you all will get to read about the beautiful, magical, and sunny Christmas break BK and I were able to have this past year.

BK and I had the most wonderful Christmas Break in the world.  Not only were we able to go to Santa Barbara, but we were also able to go to San Francisco as well!  We did so much, it's hard to summarize it all.

Before Christmas break though, I had to survive finals week.  Believe me, it was not an easy task.  I worked my hardest, and {including the grades I got on my finals} I was able to end the semester with 5 A's and 1 B.  I was so happy, I cried.  It was a great way to end the semester and begin my 2.5 week long break.  This break was the first break I was finally able to not worry about absolutely anything! The first break I spent putting finishing details on my wedding, and my second break I spent studying for school.  This break was spent with my Sweetheart and my family traveling, celebrating Christmas, and starting the new year.  It was so perfect, I wish I could go back.  Here's a {very summarized} play-by-play of our fantastic vacation in California!

Saturday, December 21: Unfortunately, driving to Santa Barbara really isn't super fun. BUT, I'm so glad I got to spend an entire day with my love and he is the best driver. Road trips together are never boring.  Since we had to travel this day, we weren't able to make it to a wedding on Kurt's side of the family :( But CONGRATS to Spencer & Megan on being the
newest Mr. & Mrs. Witt!

Tuesday, December 24: Christmas Eve is my favorite! I love the excitement of Christmas, and I ESPECIALLY love Christmas Eve dinner when it's prime rib :) Anyways, I was able to see my dearest friend from high school, Flo! I love this girl to death and she's doing so many amazing things with her life.  I am so grateful that I made such a good friend in high school who was always supportive of the choice I made to stay away from negative influences. I am so blessed!

Wednesday, December 25: IT'S CHRISTMAS! We opened our gifts, packed our suitcases and headed for San Francisco! We stopped in Morro Bay {to see the giant rock; Kurt had never been}, San Simeon {to see the elephant seals on the beach} and then on to San Francisco.  We had dinner at the Boudin Sourdough Bakery & Cafe, where they have a swanky upstairs restaurant.  That is where we had Christmas dinner, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.  Now that we were in SF, I could get my seafood fix.  Kurt's a hater when it comes to all things seafood, so I had to get my fix. My shrimp pizza with sourdough crust was the perfect way to start my seafood-filled weekend. We then HAD to go to Ghirardelli Square and get sundaes.  They were to die for!

Thursday, December 26: We all walked around Pier 39 that morning and looked in all the tourist shops.  Is so fun seeing all the funny things they have.  We did this to kill time before our audio tour of Alcatraz.  It was SO COOL! I had already done it before {SF trip in high school for a singing competition}, but it was Kurt's first time in SF so I had a blast doing things with him.  We both found Alcatraz to be absolutely incredible.  We then went to Fog Harbor Fish House where I was {again} able to fulfill my seafood cravings with Ahi tuna. I LOVE seafood and all things fish, so I was in heaven.  I'm sure Kurt loved all the hamburgers and steaks he said in SF during prime Crab season :)  After dinner, we went to the Exploratorium.  That place is LEGIT.  It is full of all of these interactive sciency things. As much as I wanted to use as little brain power as possible during Christmas break, it was fun learning new things.

Friday, December 27: Today was a very momentous day because Kurt went on his first trolly ride! He was the happiest person in San Fran that morning :) We walked throughout China Town, then walked all the way to Lombard St., WALKED UP LOMBARD ST., and then walked to Ghirardelli Square {yes, we had to go again} to reward ourselves for all that darn walking we did! I'll be honest, I wasn't the hugest fan of having to walk up Lombard St.  But now I can say I walked up "the crookedest street in the world".  Even after Ghirardelli Square, we were starving. So we went to Carmel's Pizza. If you ever go to SF, you HAVE to go there. The pizza was incredible!

Saturday, December 28: Our last day in SF :( It was so sad leaving.  I think SF stole our hearts a little because it's such a dreamy place to be.  We had breakfast at Hollywood Cafe, where I literally got the largest omlet and mightiest hashbrowns I had ever seen. I couldn't even it half of it.  To burn off our breakfast, we went and walked across the Golden Gate Bridge.  I love the Golden Gate Bridge, and it was fun being their for Kurt's first time seeing it.  It was sad having to drive home, but I think we were all ready to be back in our own beds.

The rest of the break was so relaxing.  We went and walked on the beach, spent time with friends and family, and prepped for the long drive back to Utah before school and work started up again.  We celebrated the New Year with our friends, Jesse & Edith, and many other people.  Every time we go to SB we are reminded of how much we miss people there and how we can't wait to go back and visit soon!

So far, 2014 has treated our little family very well! We've been able to find more time to spend together, more needs and wants of ours are met every single day, and I'm back at school.  It's really hard to look at school as a blessing sometimes, especially when I spend 45 hours a week focused on it and it pretty much takes over my entire life, BUT I am glad I am back at school because everyday I get closer and closer to graduating.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS! I will graduate in August 2014 and I am SO EXCITED to say that I graduate THIS YEAR!  More and more blessing keep being poured upon Kurt and I.  We cannot believe how wonderfully 2014 has started off, and we can't wait to go on more adventures together this year!

There was a drinking fountain that was in a toilet at the Exploratorium.  It was right next to a regular drinking fountain, and this display talked about perception and how it's less likely to drink from the "toilet" just because of the way it looked. Kurt had no fear!

We got really into it and bought matching shirts for us to wear on the last day :)
